On the day of love, we often reflect on what warms our heart. We can’t help but think about the recent recipients of the Difference Maker Grant round and all the wonderful work they are doing in our community. One of the programs we supported was the Lion Community Enrichment Programs with a $21,600 grant to impact individuals of color overcome challenges, leverage their adverse experiences and enrich their character. The main focus of the grant dollars was to the Adolescent African American Males program which assists young African American and mixed-race men, ages 16-18, in healing and resolution of the effects of childhood trauma.
This program intentionally focuses on providing a safe space for young men of color to exhale, let down defenses, show vulnerabilities and take risks. Participants in the program develop critical thinking skills to build resiliency while addressing mental health and overall well-being of the participants.
